FAQs

How much does this event cost?
This event is free and made possible through support from The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation and the Northern California Chapter of the Health Physics Society.

Where does this event take place?
Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is located at 1 Cyclotron Road, Berkeley 94720. Please note, this is not the Lawrence Hall of Science.

When should we arrive for the event?
The registration desk will open from 9am on May 5th in the Foothill Parking Lot on Hearst Ave/Cyclotron Road. Do not arrive prior to 8:30am. The program begins at 9:30am.

How does site access work?
All participating troops will be sent site access information, including a confirmation letter for each vehicle. The letter must be printed out (smartphone or iPad screens will not be accepted). This letter will include the names of the adults and youth registered for the event. All vehicles must pass through security in the Foothill Parking Lot on Hearst Ave/Cyclotron Road before proceeding through the Blackberry Gate entrance to the Lab.

Will I be able to park at the Lab?
Registered vehicles will be assigned a parking spot near the event activities.

Can we take the Berkeley Lab shuttle to the event?
No, the shuttle service will not be running on this day.

What are the dress requirements?
All visitors must wear long pants and closed-toe shoes. Participants will be barred from certain activities if the dress code is not followed. This is mandated by laboratory safety regulations.

What is the adult to student ratio?
Due to the limited space at our facility, there is a limit of one adult for every five Scouts.

Will lunch be provided?
All Scouts and adult chaperones will be required to bring their own lunches and water.

Do the troops need to carpool?
We encourage carpooling as much as possible. Any adult who is only dropping off a scout must still have a confirmation letter and proceed through security in the Foothill Parking Lot on Hearst Ave/Cyclotron Road before proceeding into the Lab. Drop-offs will not be allowed unless the designated adult chaperone has already cleared security. All groups must have at least one adult for every five Scouts for the entire day. We highly encourage troops to gather prior to coming to the Lab and proceeding together through security.

What if I need to change the adult chaperone?
Email NuclearScience@lbl.gov as soon as possible regarding any changes to your registration information. A revised letter will be provided. No alterations will be accepted after May 3rd.
